Parties meet to try and resolve Greek strike | World Soccer

Greek football chief Vassilis Gagatsis is to meet government officials in a bid to resolve a dispute with club owners led to the postponement of league matches last weekend.

‘Mr Gagatsis will put forward proposals to solve the problems facing Greek football,’ a Greek Football Federation spokesman said.

The clubs are unhappy because the government will not compensate the clubs following the collapse of a digital television broadcaster. They were hoping that the agovernment woould agree to a revenue-sharing scheme from the state-run football lottery ‘Pame Stoihima’ to cover losses.

The financial situatiion for many Greek clubs is dire with PAS Ioannina docked 12 points for failing to pay players and PAOK Salonika facing a similar punishment unless they clear their debts ahead of the re-start.
